All About Val Before I married Brad in 2003, I knew absolutely nothing about cattle, and even less about farming in general. I didn't know that hay and straw were different things (FYI they are), or whether or not cows bite (they don't). In my defence, I grew up in Sudbury - home to a lot of spectacular lakes, trails, and all things beautiful - but not home to a lot of cattle. Fortunately, farming was a natural fit for me. I was a nature girl growing up, and certainly have no shortage of nature here on the farm. And, curiously, did you know that a lot of the anatomy of cattle (and associated injuries) are extremely similar to that of humans? Yep. Crazy. How do I know that? I love playing with the calves as much as he does, but while Brad was working with cattle most of his life my focus was directed on clients of the human variety. I have a degree in Kinesiology (the study of human movement) from the University of Waterloo (2005). Over the years I have had the privilege of advocating for Brain Injury survivors as well as those with complex medical issues following motor vehicle collisions, and serving as an educator on certain rare disorders. My role on the farm is more administrative these days, and I primary manage the freezer beef portion of our farming business. Thanks for your interest in us and our operation. We have a great life on the farm, and are so excited to share with you that which we are most passionate about! |
All About Brad
Brad has always been passionate about farming, and in fact, he's lived on this farm his entire life. His parents raised pigs until the late 80's, but generously encouraged him to experiment with raising different types of animals and growing various crops. Eventually, Brad settled on raising beef cattle, and as a teenager, built our herd from just one cow. He especially loves the calves, and takes every opportunity to play with them (though he's hard-pressed to admit it!). Here's a few more things you might want to know about Brad:
