Traditional Mennonite Recipe Summer Sausage ($25, 2lbs ea.)
These summer sausage sticks are made with a Traditional Mennonite Recipe, and whether you eat chunks as a meaty treat, or slice them thinly for sandwiches (and pizza if you're adventurous), the taste just can't be beat.
Details
Specs - Each stick is approximately 10" long and 3 inches diameter. They are encased in cloth bags.
Safety Considerations - Food safety guides recommend that once opened, all semi-dried meats (including summer sausage) should be stored in the fridge and used within 60 days.
Freezing - You can store summer sausage sticks in your freezer. When you are ready, defrost the sticks in the fridge overnight.
Prevent Drying - You can prevent the sausage from becoming hard (dried out) by leaving the sausage in it's cloth bag and then storing the whole thing in a resealable bag in the fridge.
Smell Patrol Tip - If you don't want everything in your fridge to smell like summer sausage (as delectable as it is), place the opened stick in a resealable plastic bag (or maybe even double bag it!).
